John Gaventa has completed a study for the Neighbourhood
Renewal Unit of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), UK, called
"Representation, Community Leadership and Participation: Citizen
involvement in neighbourhood renewal and local governance".
The paper examines the tensions between elected
political leaders and neighbourhood leaders in local governance processes,
and draws extensively from lessons learnt from the LogoLink experiences
for possible application in the UK.
A shorter article entitled "Strengthening Participatory Local Governance: Lessons from abroad" and based in part on this work has also been published in the National Civic Review in the United States.
In September John presented the findings of this study to a workshop in
London sponsored by the Local Government Association and the ODPM.
